How to Access the WordPress Administration Panel: A Beginner's Guide

by SW Team

If you are taking your first steps with WordPress, it is normal that you have doubts about how to access the administration panel of your site. In this article, we will explain two main ways to do it and how to recover your credentials in case you forget them.

Access through wp-admin or wp-login.php

What is wp-login.php and wp-admin?

  • wp-login.php: This is the file responsible for the WordPress login screen. When you access your website and add "/wp-login.php" to the URL in your browser, you are redirected directly to the login screen where you must enter your credentials (username and password). From here, you can log in to your WordPress account and you will be automatically redirected to the wp-admin.

  • wp-admin: On the other hand, wp-admin is the directory that houses the WordPress administration panel. This is where you can actually manage your website, edit content, install plugins, change the appearance of the site and perform other administration tasks.

Steps to Access:

  • 1. Open your browser: Launch your preferred web browser.

  • 2. Type the URL: In the address bar, type your website URL followed by "/wp-admin" o "/wp-login.php".
