Connect to your Cloud by console using PuTTY

In this manual we will teach you how to access the console of your Cloud server from any computer using the free PuTTY application.

What is PuTTY?

PuTTY is a free SSH client that allows us to connect to another machine remotely or via Serial. Its most common use is to connect to a server to which we do not have physical access, to be able to execute commands within it. By being able to execute commands within our server, we will be able to carry out operations such as installing a program, copying or moving files, making updates or modifying a configuration file. The program is completely free and safe.

How do I get PuTTY?

You can download the PuTTY application through its official website in the downloads section, you just have to choose the version to your operating system. For example, if we have Windows 10 (64 bit) we just have to click on the first download link on the page.

Once we download the installation package, just run it and follow the standard installation procedure.

How can I access the console of my Cloud?

In order to access the console of our Cloud we will need to collect a series of data:

  • The IP or name of the server
  • The port through which to connect
  • The method of connection
  • The password of the root user

All this data is sent by email to the person in charge of the service at the time of creating a Cloud. The email is similar to the one shown below:

To connect with our Cloud, we execute the PuTTY program and a screen like the following one will appear:

enter image description here

First we will enter the IP, we will make sure that the correct port is selected (usually 22), the correct connection method (SSH) and finally we will click on "Open".

A pop-up window will appear asking us with which user we want to connect, we will enter "root" and press "enter".

Then it will ask us for the password of the root user, we will enter it (while we enter it, nothing appears on the screen, it is for security) and we will press "enter".

And we will already be in the console of our Cloud connected with the root user who has all the privileges and can do any operation.

⚠️o close the window and disconnect from the server we activate the command "exit" and the program will cut the connection and close automatically.⚠️

Done! We already know how to enter our Cloud console with the PuTTY program.
